Centre Concord
It is not surprising that Enterprise Roofing Service, Inc. was selected to re-roof the 19,300-square-foot roof of Centre Concorde in Concord, Calif. After all, the company installed the original roof that had weathered the elements for 20 years. The main difference between the old and new roof is that the current one had to comply with California's Title 24 energy-efficiency standards.
"We worked loosely with Johns Manville in developing a product that would allow multi-ply roofing systems to qualify for Title 24 compliance," said Larry Reardon, president of Enterprise Roofing. "We visited JM's plant and worked with their staff and Elaine Hebert, energy specialist with the California Energy Commission. The resulting product is GlasKap® CR, a mineral-surfaced white acrylic-coated fiber glass cap sheet that provides extra protection to the membrane and underlying asphalt."
Under the direction of Bill Sager, project manager and John Brennan, superintendent, Enterprise tore off the old roofing system, repaired the deck, replaced a number of plywood sheets and replaced some roof joists. Crews also completed a seismic retrofit of the roof deck to attach it to concrete tilt-up panels.
They then applied 3-inch ENRGY 3® polyisocyanurate insulation, Tapered Fesco® Board and ½-inch Retro-Fit® Board. They hot mopped four plies of GlasPly® Premier felt followed by the GlasKap CR cap sheet.
"We are big supporters of multi-ply roofing systems," Reardon said. "The redundancy of an asphalt-containing membrane stands up well to the weather and is able to accept the abuse of people."
Enterprise roofing has 45-years experience applying multi-ply roofing systems. The $18 million company specializes in commercial and industrial roofing systems. They attained Summit level in the Johns Manville Peak Advantage™ Contractor Program.
